Roid Rage

Some Polaroids from my Polaroid 440; I finished the pack because it's difficult to use and the results don't even justify the expense of expired film to feed it. I lost one of the frames and smudged most of the rest; instant prints are pretty delicate.

A tree near where I live.

A ditch near where I lived for a couple of days. Composite of 2 bad exposures. Not a huge improvement ; )

Newcomb Never Sleeps

Late May 2010. Last black and white roll before the darkroom was cut off for renovations in the surrounding hallway.

Outside Brown Residential College.

Gritty interior of Brown Residential College.

Managed to blur in spite of tripod usage.

Some more photos from around May 2010. No watermarks this time.

I know I've got another photo of this tree, but I can't find it on Eastern Glow. Maybe it's not posted.

The annual Swan Songs of Shakespeare on the Lawn, where graduating members deliver speeches and reminisce about past shows. This was also a torture test for my new low contrast filters; the exposure difference between highlights and shadows was still slightly too large.

More Swan Songs.

The Newcomb Project continues. I'm quite happy with this one.

Not technically Newcomb Project; a holding area for construction equipment for the bookstore parking lot addition.

My neighborhood.

I lived here once.

This house doesn't exist anymore. Also, I just couldn't get the color right.

End of the Academic Year 2010

Watermarks are back for now.

More of the same.

Fascination with light.

More banquet.

Path off of Preston Ave, I believe. Also a test of my new Tiffen low contrast filters.

Echoes some earlier work.

Retake of some earlier work.

Home, wherever that is

Last post was too many words and not enough pictures. These pictures cover two adventures.

This was from that time I walked a good five or so miles through D.C. for a camera show and eventually saw Dave Barry, through some coincidence. And then got dust all over the negatives.

These pictures aren't in order. These kids were under some bridge around Georgetown/Dupont.

One of hundreds of buildings I walked past, one of only a few I photographed. A nice Venn diagram of which to be at the center. (grammar will ruin your life, children)

I love fake alleys like this. Just share the wall; it's so much more efficient.

I've already said this, but I don't live here anymore.

My housemate and fellow photographer.

I made him hold this pose (which he had been doing anyway). Looking close enough will reveal individual raindrops (and also dust). On the whole, maybe too blue... (Pro tip: dust on a winter negative can be passed off as snow.)

Later, and without my housemate. Similar view.

A high school graduation. Almost every single one of these kids is going to college.

It's my brother's graduating class, and I'm still well recognized enough to sneak behind the scenes for photos during the pregame pep-talk.

Relatives of mine. There may be a story here...

My grandmother, it is said (by other members of my family), sabotages photos. Not a big deal unless you're using film.

Eventually I came to embrace the aesthetic of bad group pictures; I've thought about doing a set. For instance, 50% of the subjects in this photo look really upset about something, while the other 50% couldn't be happier. Those two may be connected...
