Portfolio: Vine

When I made this photo, I don't recall if it was before or after a memorial dedicated to (I believe) a friend of mine and fellow photographer was placed adjacent to this wall, in the Student Memorial Garden, on the outside of Newcomb Hall.

Either way, it's sort of a musing on the marks left by living things as they pass through the world and out again.

And of course, I blame the bizarre color on Ektar, recommended to me by that same friend; you can see the color on his are a little odd as well.

A re-visitation of one of a photo from last semester, but in color with a different camera and perspective. The particular Thursday that this was taken, golden hour started at 3 in the afternoon; this photo made me late for work.

This tree is near UVa Medical School; it seemed marginally interesting so I photographed it. My photo teacher thought it was marginally interesting too, and told me so, and then I put it in my portfolio. That's pretty much the entire story.

Portfolio: Graveyard

Apparently graveyards are a popular (cliché?) subject for student photographers, particularly those starting in black-and-white. I couldn't resist this photo though, and am quite happy with the result. The graveyard is on Grounds at University of Virginia, on McCormick and Alderman, and Modest Productions filmed part of our latest film there (for which I was cinematographer, cameraman, gaffer, and black-and-white conversion technician; I also cut the trailer).

Portfolio: Eric

This photograph is one of several I have taken of my brother, who is notoriously camera shy. I'll post more later, but this one made my portfolio. It was tricky to get the color on this one; under the bridge was different from the outside and the skintones were tricky in general, being partly in both zones. I also think I shot it on high-speed film, which has bizarre color in general. I'm satisfied with the result though.

Portfolio: Stephen

The subject of this photo was part of the greatest electro duo in Charlottesville, VA: Bear War. Unfortunately they're no longer performing, but I followed them and recorded both photos and videos. This was taken in a bored moment before class in Wilson Hall. I had a spare print of this, which I gave him as I ran into him after the final portfolio review.
